Be the Change! Make a difference in the lives of youth.

"Service is a spark to rekindle the spirit of democracy in an age of uncertainty. When it is all said and done, it comes down to three simple questions: What is right? What is wrong? And what are we going to do about it?” --Bill Clinton, swearing in the first class of AmeriCorps Members in 1994.

Each year, BAYAC AmeriCorps Members commit to a full-time year of service in the San Francisco Bay Area's most high need communities, providing one-on-one academic support, leading workshops, teaching classes, or providing consistent support to youth in other ways.

People are drawn to BAYAC AmeriCorps for different reasons. Some Members grew up with youth development programs and want to share that experience with a new generation of youth. Some want to explore a career in youth services while receiving targeted professional development. Many are from the communities in which we serve, while others are looking to make a home in the Bay Area. All of them apply because they are dedicated to change. They want to turn conviction into action.

BAYAC AmeriCorps Members are placed at partnering schools and community based organizations that provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. (Positions vary based on placement site.) For some of our youth, our Members are the main adult and role model in their lives.

If you see the need for someone like you in your community, apply for an AmeriCorps position and be the change.

The following benefits are available to our AmeriCorps Members:

  • $14,700 stipend paid to full-time members throughout the term of service
  • Education award of $5,730 granted upon completion of service and usable for college, trade school, or other educational expenses
  • Forbearance on most existing student loans, and payment of interest accrued during your service
  • Health insurance through Symetra
  • Childcare assistance for qualifying members, paid to an eligible provider of choice
  • Ongoing professional development and training
